It explains that HPV can cause anal and oropharyngeal cancers in both women and men; cancers of the cervix, vulva, and vagina in women; and cancer of the penis in men. The information sheet notes that the virus is transmitted during sexual contact and reminds parents that the vaccine is recommended for preteen girls and boys ages 11 or 12 and can be given to older youth who have not been vaccinated.
