Recommendations for Partner Services Programs for HIV Infection, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydial Infection

This report provides updated, integrated recommendations for partner services for HIV infection, as well as infection with syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. These updated recommendations replace the following publications: (1) Program Operations Guidelines for STD Prevention, CDC 2001; and (2) HIV Partner Counseling and Referral Services Guidance, CDC 1998. The updated recommendations serve as a basis for delivery of partner services and related training and technical assistance. They are meant for state and local health department program managers who are responsible for overseeing partner services programs and who are focused primarily on traditional, health department-based strategies for conducting partner services. The recommendations are to be used in conjunction with local area needs, resources, and laws. The report explains how these recommendations were revised and how they differ from previous guidelines, and the report provides a definition and overview of partner services.
