The 12-Dose Regimen for Latent Tuberculosis (TB) Infection

This information sheet discusses the once-a-week 12-week treatment of rifapentine and isoniazid for latent TB infection (LTBI). It explains LTBI, why it is necessary to treat it, the treatment plan and how it is managed, and a chart for tracking. It also includes hints on how to take the medicine including eating before taking it and avoiding alcohol, and describes normal side effects and possible problems including which signs and symptoms require you to call the doctor or nurse and what to do when taking a dose of medicine in the absence of medical staff.

Latent Tuberculosis Infection: A Guide for Primary Health Care Providers

This pamphlet is a guide for primary care providers who treat individuals and populations that may be at risk for latent TB infection (LTBI). It is not a substitute for the guidelines on testing and treating LTBI, but is a ready and useful reference that highlights the main points of the guidelines. LTBI is the presence of the TB bacterium in the body without signs and symptoms or radiographic or bacteriologic evidence of TB disease. Unless People with LTBI receive proper treatment, they may develop TB disease at some point in their life.

Community-Based Tuberculosis Prevention and Care: Why and How To Get Involved

This report serves as a handbook or primer, for nongovernmental organizations and civil society organizations (CSOs) considering joining the fight against TB. It provides informaton on TB and its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment and how TB programs work, how communities and CSOs can get involved, and on special populations that need extra attention. It includes step-by-step guidance on getting started in addressing TB, pitfalls to avoid, and a list of useful resources.

MMWR: Trends in Tuberculosis – United States, 2012

This report summarizes provisional TB surveillance data reported to CDC’s National Tuberculosis Surveillance System in 2012. A total of 9,951 new TB cases were reported for an incidence of 3.2 cases per 100,000 population, which is a decrease of 6.1 percent from the incidence in 2011. TB incidence rate among foreign-born persons in the United States was 11.5 times as high as in US-born persons. Also, racial/ethnic disparities in TB incidence persist with TB rates among non-Hispanic Asians, Hispanics, and non-Hispanic blacks were 25.0, 6.6, and 7.3 times as high respectively.

MMWR: Provisional CDC Guidelines for the Use and Safety Monitoring of Bedaquiline Fumarate (Sirturo) for the Treatment of Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis

This report provides provisional CDC guidelines for FDA-approved and unapproved, or off-label, uses of bedaquiline in certain populations who were not included in the clinical trials for the drug. These guidelines are intended for health-care professionals who might use bedaquiline for the treatment of MDR TB for indicated and off-label uses. Aspects of these guidelines are not identical to current FDA-approved labeling for bedaquiline.

Reported Tuberculosis in the United States 2012

This report presents summary data for TB cases verified and counted in 2012. The data were submitted to CDC’s Division of TB Elimination by 60 reporting areas, 50 states, the District of Columbia, New York City, Puerto Rico, and seven other jurisdictions in the Pacific and Caribbean. The report contains an Executive Commentary, which provides highlights of the 2012 data, Technical Notes including information about how the data were collected and reported, seven major data sections, and appendices.

This manual provides guidelines for treatment and health care maintenance of persons with HIV infection. It discusses testing and counseling, the initial evaluation of patients, initiating antiretroviral therapy, what drugs should be used, adverse reactions, and the issue of patient adherence to therapy. It also includes special considerations for treating pregnant women.
