The webinar, “Low-Barrier Care as Part of Differentiated Service Delivery for People with HIV”, was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Dr. Julie Dombrowski, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington and Deputy Director of the Public Health for Seattle & King County’s (PHSKC) HIV/STD Program, gave this talk. The webinar explored low-barrier HIV care, its purpose and design, and discuss how PHSKC has implemented this model. This webinar was co-sponsored by RAISE and NASTAD. 

HIV Data Privacy, Criminalization, and the Role of Health Departments

On June 23, 2023, NASTAD held a webinar, “HIV Data Privacy, Criminalization, and the Role of Health Departments.” This webinar provided an overview of NASTAD’s newly updated resource “U.S. HIV Data Protection Landscape,” including trends and findings from a comprehensive 53-jurisdiction review of HIV data privacy laws and regulations, followed by a discussion with two guest speakers about the role of health departments and legal counsel in upholding and strengthening HIV data protections.

The Path That Ends AIDS

ISSUE BRIEF: Status Neutral HIV Care and Service Delivery Eliminating Stigma and Reducing Health Disparities

Powerful HIV prevention and treatment tools can keep people healthy and help end the HIV epidemic. Combining these tools in a status neutral approach can help people maintain their best health possible, while also improving outcomes in HIV prevention, diagnosis, care, and treatment. A status neutral approach to HIV-related service delivery aims to deliver high-quality, culturally affirming health care and services at every engagement which supports optimal health for people with and without HIV.

Moldova Expands Harm Reduction Services to All Prisons

This video discusses how any new prisoner to the country’s 17 penitentiaries sees a psychiatrist, a doctor and if needed is offered to join a treatment programme. Comprehensive harm reduction services not only include drug dependence treatment but also needle syringe exchange and HIV testing and treatment. HIV prevalence is 11% among people who inject drugs in Moldova vs 0.36% among the general population.  They are one of the most affected groups in the country. UNAIDS, UNODC and WHO have been long-time supporters of expanding these services to all prisons.

HIV and People in Prisons and Other Closed Settings

This factsheet discusses how it is estimated that on any given day, there are at around 11 million people in prison. Prisons and other closed settings have a high prevalence of HIV, hepatitis B and C and tuberculosis (TB) infections.

Leave no one behind and that includes people who use drugs

This video discusses how Daouda Diouf comes daily to the Fann Hospital compound daily in Dakar, Senegal. He is one of 250 people enrolled in CEPIAD’s opioid substitution therapy programme (OST). OST is a globally recognized intervention to reduce injecting behaviors that put people who inject drugs at risk of contracting HIV and other blood-borne diseases, such as viral hepatitis.
