This document guides NTPs on how to engage all relevant health care providers in TB control and thereby promote the use of evidence-based, International Standards for TB Care. The experience and evidence on scaling up and sustaining PPM is now clearly emerging. The authors hope that this document will help countries to scale up PPM DOTS more rapidly and contribute significantly to achieving the TB-related Millennium Development Goal.

The questionnaire is a survey instrument that can be used to determine which health-care staff are involved in managing TB patients at the primary care level in National TB Programs that follow the DOTS strategy, and to assess the time needed to perform the tasks related to TB care. It is intended as a survey instrument, not as a planning tool.

Treatment Action Group (TAG) analyzes and reports on the annual
funding of tuberculosis (TB ) research and development (R&D). The top 40 TB
research funding institutions were surveyed for actual disbursements made for TB
R&D in fiscal years 2005, 2006, and now 2007. The three-year data reveal trends in
funding and demonstrates an alarming shortfall in the growth of TB R&D during the
initial years covered by The Global Plan to Stop TB: 2006–2015.

This book provides guidelines to national TB program managers, policy makers, nongovernmental organizations, and donor agencies on effective management of TB. The guidelines focus on the technical and managerial aspects of treatment.

Popularly known as “The Orange Guide”, the 6th edition of this small book provides practical guidance to health workers on the front line of TB control. It includes sections on HIV, MDR-TB and a review of the recommended treatment regimens.

This handbook is intended to give guidance to those responsible for developing country-specific strategic plans and annual implementation plans for HRD for comprehensive TB control within overall HRH development. The central theme of this handbook points to the need for close collaboration between, and coordination among, national TB control programmes and the departments of health system management or human resources for health of the Ministry of Health and their respective partners.

The Evidence-based Participatory Quality Improvement (EPQI) methodology has been adapted to TB and is an innovative way to obtain better results, with the commitment of those who are directly responsible for patient care. This methodology for health care solutions features four integral components: a) customer-oriented quality evidence, b) process improvement, c) health system approach and d) participatory improvement. The crucial steps toward achieving and sustaining improvement in TB diagnostics and care are described in this document.

This new roadmap for 2011-2015 follows on the Global Plan to Stop TB 2006-2015 while setting new and more ambitious targets for the next five years. The action plan, for the first time, identifies all the research gaps that need to be filled to bring rapid TB tests, faster treatment regimens and a fully effective vaccine to market. It also shows public health programmes how to drive universal access to TB care, including how to modernize diagnostic laboratories and adopt revolutionary TB tests that have recently become available.
