Mass Media Campaign to Help Eliminate TB in Brazil: Final Report

This report includes a description and evaluation of a national media campaign that Development Media International (DMI) conducted in April 2006 to promote treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in Brazil, in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Brazil, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The campaign included 3 television spots and 10 radio spots broadcast over a 30-day period.

Getting the Message Across: Public Health Campaigns (1948–2008)

This book takes a historical look at the power of posters to persuade people to change their behaviour. It charts decades of changing health priorities, advertising trends and government regulations, inviting the reader to reflect on how public health campaigns have evolved, and how they could be improved. The book contains a large global sample of public health posters with translations in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Russian.

Making Data Talk: A Workbook

The National Cancer Institute’s newly released publication, Making Data Talk: A Workbook, assists public health practitioners, scientists, health educators, clinicians, researchers, students, and statisticians to understand the critical roles data play in communication. The workbook offers recommendations about selecting and presenting data and introduces the Organize, Plan, Test, Integrate framework, which guides public health practitioners on how to present health data to lay audiences.

TB and Cultural Competency: Notes from the field

This issue discusses a nurses’ relationship with a Vietnamese couple affected by TB. It highlights some challenges in communication, and how they were overcome. The issue also includes information on communication styles and use of open-ended questions.

Training Curriculum: Overcoming Barriers to TB Control - The Role of Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization

This curriculum is designed for training TB control professionals, NGOs, and civil society activists at national and local levels who are involved in advocacy, communication, and social mobilization (ACSM) efforts. It is designed to provide country-level staff with the specific knowledge and skills to plan, implement, and evaluate effective ACSM interventions linked to specific TB control objectives. The document consists of four files: the curriculum itself, plus annexes for trainer's guides, handouts, and work sheets.
