This pamphlet provides information on pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), another name for infections of the womb, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, which results from untreated STDs. The pamphlet describes basic facts about PID: how one acquires the disease, testing, risk for PID, symptoms, treatment, transmission, and risk of reinfection. It explains that if PID is not treated, it can affect other reproductive organs and can cause problems with pregnancy. PID can cause chronic pain in the pelvic area.

The pamphlet explains that doctors do not know exactly how women get BV, but it lists risk factors for the disease. It discusses testing, symptoms, whether an individual can be reinfected, and how BV affects pregnant women and their babies. It explains that BV is treated and cured with antibiotics, what happens if an individual does not get treated, how BV affects one’s sex partner, and how to lower one’s risk of BV.

Herpes Genital: La Realidad

This pamphlet provides information about genital herpes, an STD. It explains how genital herpes is spread, the type of symptoms, if any, and treatments for the symptoms, since there is no cure for the disease. The pamphlet states that there are two types of genital herpes: HSV1 and HSV2, both of which cause sores or blisters on or around the genitals. It explains that if infected with genital herpes, an individual can expect to have several outbreaks a year and has a higher risk of getting HIV infection from unprotected sex with a partner living with HIV.

This information sheet discusses bacterial vaginosis (BV), a condition in which the vagina experiences an overgrowth of certain bacteria, and which often causes pain, discharge, odor, and itching or burning. The information sheet explains that the infection is common in women of childbearing age and in pregnant women, and describes the signs and symptoms, complications, effect on a pregnant woman and baby, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. BV can increase a woman's susceptibility to HIV and her ability to transmit HIV to a partner.
