MMWR: Screening Tests to Detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae Infections -- 2002

This monograph presents guidelines to (1) assist laboratorians, clinicians, and managers select screening tests for C. trachomatis or N. gonorrhoeae from the multiple available tests; (2) establish standard operating procedures for collecting, processing, and analyzing specimens; and (3) interpret test results for laboratory reporting, counseling, and treating patients. The monograph reviews the technologies available for laboratory diagnosis of c. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae.

Initiating Second Generation HIV Surveillance Systems: Practical Guidelines

This report presents guidelines to assist national AIDS programs and ministries of health in implementing second generation surveillance systems to monitor HIV. The monograph discusses the role of second generation surveillance in a National Strategic plan and the assessment of HIV, sexually transmitted infections, and current behavioral surveillance systems in order to find the gaps and design a new system to fill those gaps.

The Global MDR-TB and XDR-TB Response Plan 2007-2008

The Global MDR-TB and XDR-TB Response Plan 2007-2008 sets out measures needed now to prevent, treat and control extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) and multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). The plan also sets in motion actions to reach a 2015 goal of providing access to drugs and diagnostic tests to all MDR-TB and XDR-TB patients, saving the lives of up to 1.2 million patients.

This publication describes Lights of Hope, a stand-alone National Tuberculosis Communication Strategy for use in Kenya in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). It is based on a study of health-seeking behaviours among Kenyans, strategy design workshops with stakeholders, and meetings with frontline TB workers. It presents a strategy for reducing the impact of TB in Kenya through communication strategies aimed at behavior change.
