Health Disparities in HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, and Tuberculosis in the United States

In this report, health disparities are measured by examining differences in HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STDs, and tuberculosis surveillance data with respect to such sociodemographic factors as race/ethnicity, sex, and age. In addition, where possible, disparities are measured by examining differences by sexual orientation and geographic location. This report includes a retrospective review of CDC surveillance data for HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STDs, and tuberculosis over the period 2000-2004.

New Laboratory Diagnostic Tools for Tuberculosis Control

This document describes nineteen (19) new or improved diagnostic tools of the many that have been or are being developed. WHO has a process for evaluating and endorsing new tools for TB control programmes. Three (3) of the tools described in this document have already been endorsed by WHO and are being implemented by countries, while the others are still under development or in piloting phase and are expected to be ready for review for appropriateness for scaled-up use in the coming years.

TB Advocacy Toolkit

This toolkit is an interactive resource designed for TB control and advocacy efforts. It allows users to search for and choose information, such as publications, chapters, and tools, in order to create their own advocacy materials.

A Critical Analysis of Funding Trends, 2005-2007: An Update

Treatment Action Group (TAG) analyzes and reports on the annual
funding of tuberculosis (TB ) research and development (R&D). The top 40 TB
research funding institutions were surveyed for actual disbursements made for TB
R&D in fiscal years 2005, 2006, and now 2007. The three-year data reveal trends in
funding and demonstrates an alarming shortfall in the growth of TB R&D during the
initial years covered by The Global Plan to Stop TB: 2006–2015.

Tuberculosis and Public Health: Policy and Principles in Tuberculosis Control

This book describes the national tuberculosis program model for preventing, controlling and treating tuberculosis. It reviews its historical background and scientific basis, as well as considering the context within which it is implemented, that is, countries with a high prevalence of tuberculosis. The author addresses the debates taking place not only within the tuberculosis community but also in the wider context of communicable disease control and health services organization in general.
