This information sheet discusses the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) prevention needs of sex workers. The information sheet determines whether sex workers are at risk for HIV. It discusses what places them at risk, the barriers to HIV prevention for this group, and what is being done and what should be done to promote HIV prevention for sex workers.

This information sheet discusses syphilis, an STD caused by a bacterium, among men who have sex with men (MSM). It describes the disease, its transmission, stages, symptoms, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment and provides statistics on the number of cases in the United States. The sheet also discusses the increase in syphilis among MSM as well as the high rates of HIV coinfection in MSM with syphilis, and explains how syphilis infection makes individuals more susceptible to acquiring or transmitting HIV.

Lo Que Usted Debe Saber Sobre La Hepatitis B

This pamphlet provides information about hepatitis B, a viral disease that affects the liver. It discusses the liver and how it is affected by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), what is chronic hepatitis B, who gets HBV, its transmission and symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment, such as liver transplantation if chronic hepatitis B causes liver failure. The pamphlet also discusses HBV prevention, including vaccination, what to do if exposed to HBV, getting tested and early treatment to prevent liver damage, and participating in clinical trials. TB Medication Fact Sheets (French)

This series of patient education fact sheets provides information on drugs used in the treatment of TB (e.g., Clofazimine, Ethambutol, Ethionamide, Isoniazid, Levofloxacin, Moxifloxacin, PASER [p-aminosalicylic acid granules], Pyrazinamide, Pyridoxine, Rifabutin, Rifampin, Streptomycin). The fact sheets include information on medication side effects, actions to take if side effects occur, and instructions in the event a dose of medication is missed.

It recommends getting vaccines such as the annual flu vaccine, pneumonia vaccine, and hepatitis A or B vaccines, whichever is necessary; a healthy balanced diet, avoiding raw seafood and alcohol; limiting certain medications; and checking with one’s medical provider or pharmacist before taking herbal medicines.
