The report outlines the current state of pediatric TB care, and looks at current practices, new developments and research needs in pediatric TB diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Out of the dark intends to act as a guide to treatment programs for implementation of the best standard of care currently available to children with TB, and to raise awareness of the need to continue to push for improvements in the management of childhood TB.

This curriculum is designed for training TB control professionals, NGOs, and civil society activists at national and local levels who are involved in advocacy, communication, and social mobilization (ACSM) efforts. This online course covers how to diagnose, treat, and prevent childhood TB. The course consists of six modules: epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, TB/HIV, prevention, and practice. The content is based on the World Health Organization's "Guidance for National Tuberculosis Programmes on the Management of Tuberculosis in Children" and the Union's "Desk Guide for Diagnosis and Management of TB in Children."

This report is a manual on antiretroviral treatment and care of HIV infected patients in African settings. This second version of the manual was written by a team of doctors and researchers in France. It provides concise updated information on types of antiretroviral drugs, post-exposure prophylaxis, treatment recommendations, infant formulations, generics, and treatment of opportunistic infections.

This report describes the case of a cardiothoracic surgeon in Israel specializing in open-heart procedures who was found to be HIV-positive in January 2007, during evaluation for a fever of recent onset. The duration of infection was unknown. A review of the patients operated on by the infected surgeon during the preceding 10 years was conducted under the auspices of the Israel Ministry of Health to determine whether any surgeon-to-patient HIV transmission had occurred. Of 1,669 patients identified, 545 received serologic testing for HIV antibody. All results were negative.

A checklist for individuals to see if they may need a test for TB. The checklist has 3 questions:

*Were you born in or have you lived in a country (for over a month) where TB is common? This includes anywhere in Africa, Asia, Mexico, Central or South America, the Caribbean or Eastern Europe.
*Have you lived with or spent time with someone who has had TB?
*Do you have HIV/AIDS, diabetes, or kidney disease? Are you an organ transplant recipient or do you take medication that weakens your immune system?
