National HIV/AIDS Strategy for the United States: Updated to 2020

This report is an updated Strategy that looks ahead to 2020 and spells out the U.S. goals and objectives for the prevention and elimination of HIV infection. The Strategy has four main goals: 1) reducing new HIV infections; 2) increasing access to care and improving health health outcomes for people living with HIV; 3) reducing HIV-related health disparities and health inequities; and 4) achieving a more coordinated national response to the HIV epidemic.

MMWR: Prevalence of Diagnosed and Undiagnosed HIV Infection — United States, 2008–2012

This report summarizes the findings if data that measured the prevalence of diagnosed and undiagnosed HIV infection for the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The results presented in this report show that although the overall percentage of persons living with HIV who have received a diagnosis of HIV infection is high, additional efforts are needed to ensure that all jurisdictions meet the goals of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, which are to: reduce new HIV infections, improve health outcomes among persons living with HIV, and reduce HIV-related disparities.

NPHIC STD Communication Toolkit

This STD communications toolkit was developed by NPHIC and staff from CDC's Division of STD Prevention. Its purpose is to provide materials and resources that will help communications staff and STD program managers in state and local health departments communicate effectively about STDs. The materials are divided into two broad categories: information for the general public and information for providers. The toolkit was created following key informant interviews with public information officers and STD program staff in seven state and two city health departments.

HIV/AIDS and Human Rights: International Guidelines

This report contains guidelines adopted at the second International Consultation on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights, held in Geneva from 23 to 25 September 1996, to assist states in creating a positive, rights-based response to HIV/AIDS that is effective in reducing the transmission and impact of HIV/AIDS and consistent with human rights and fundamental freedoms. The purpose of the guidelines is to assist States in translating international human rights norms into practical observance in the context of HIV/AIDS.

The monograph reviews the global epidemiology and overall impact of HIV/AIDS. It makes recommendations about how to improve HIV/AIDS care and prevention programs through healthcare and political policies and emphasizes the need to protect human rights and solve, nationally and internationally, the many disparities that fuel this epidemic.

This pamphlet examines HIV among children and adolescents internationally. The pamphlet discusses the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS among young persons, the factors and behaviors that place them at risk for HIV, and intervention strategies to prevent the spread of HIV to children and adolescents, as well as maternal transmission to infants.
