Guidelines on the Management of Latent Tuberculosis Infection

The purpose of these guidelines is to provide guidance on evidence-based practices for testing, treating and managing latent TB infection (LTBI) in persons who are at the highest risk of progressing to active TB disease. Specific objectives include identifying and prioritizing at-risk groups for targeted testing and treatment and recommending specific treatment options.

This document provides general guidance and examples on implementing contact investigations in low- and middle-income settings. The World Health Organization (WHO) policy document "Recommendations for Inves­tigating Contacts of Persons with Infectious Tuberculosis in Low- and Middle-Income Countries", published in late 2012, presents definitions and recommendations for what should be done for contact investigation; this doc­ument presents suggestions and examples of how the recommendations can be put into operation.
