National Guide to Monitoring and Evaluating Programmes for the Prevention of HIV in Infants and Young Children

This report presents guidelines for monitoring programs for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in infants and young children. It presents a list of core indicators and additonal indicators for indicating the success of these programs. Countries with prevention programs for infants and young children should have the core indicators in operation. The report gives a definition of each indicator, the rationale for its use, what it measures, measurement tools and how the indicator is measured, and its strengths and limitations.

Case Studies in Tuberculosis. Training in Nurse Case Management

This collection of nursing case studies and their accompanying tools are intended to complement a TB program’s education and training of its nursing staff. The cases are based on real-life experiences of TB nurse case managers in the Heartland Region and are designed to illustrate key concepts in TB control and prevention.

HIV/AIDS Among Hispanics: United States 2001-2005

This report provides information on the disproportionate rates of HIV infection and AIDS in Hispanics living in the US. The report is based on an analysis of HIV/AIDS cases diagnosed among Hispanic adults and adolescents living with HIV or AIDS in 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2005. HIV/AIDS cases include those with a diagnosis of HIV infection that have not progressed to AIDS, those with a diagnosis of HIV infection followed by a diagnosis of AIDS, and concurrent diagnoses of AIDS and HIV infection.

Scale up of HIV-Related Prevention, Diagnosis, Care and Treatment for Infants and Children: A Programming Framework

This monograph provides a programming framework to assist national health managers and implementing partners in resource-constrained settings that have a high burden of HIV. The monograph gives information about scaling up HIV prevention, and the diagnosis, care, and treatment for children exposed to, or infected with, HIV. The framework emphasizes the importance of early HIV diagnosis, cotrimoxazole preventive treatment for children who are exposed to, or who are infected with, HIV, and timely entry to care and treatment.

Updated Interim Guidance–HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents: Considerations for Clinicians Regarding Swine-Origin Influenza A (H1N1) Virus

This Web site provides interim guidance for clinicians who treat immune compromised persons, including HIV-infected adults and adolescents. The page explains that persons with low CD4 cell counts or AIDS can experience more severe complications of seasonal influenza, and possibly HIV-infected adults and adolescents are at higher risk for swine-origin influenza complications.

Updated Guidelines for the Use of Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests in the Diagnosis of Tuberculosis

This report presents the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) updated recommendations on the use of nucleic acid amplification tests (NAA) for TB diagnosis. These revised guidelines were developed on the basis of a report by a panel of clinicians, laboratorians, and TB control officials. The panel was convened by CDC and the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and in consultation with the Advisory Council for the Elimination of TB (ACET).
