Engaging All Health Care Providers in TB Control: Guidance on Implementing Public-Private Mix Approaches

This document guides NTPs on how to engage all relevant health care providers in TB control and thereby promote the use of evidence-based, International Standards for TB Care. The experience and evidence on scaling up and sustaining PPM is now clearly emerging. The authors hope that this document will help countries to scale up PPM DOTS more rapidly and contribute significantly to achieving the TB-related Millennium Development Goal.

Speaking Books

The Speaking Book is a practical solution to the dual challenge of low literacy and shortage of training community workers. The Speaking Book is an interactive, multi-lingual hard-backed book with a 5 minute recorded sound box, that is seen, read, heard, and understood, regardless of reading ability. Each page features colorful illustrations with a short text and an icon that corresponds to a button on a keypad to trigger a celebrity voice reading the text on that page. The back cover of every book lists the phone numbers and contact details for the relevant health care support.

RTMCC Product List

This webpage was developed to succinctly display and provide access to the educational materials developed by the CDC-funded TB Regional Training and Medical Consultation Centers (RTMCCs). These resources include print, audiotape, videotape, CD-based tools, and MP3 files. Included in the list below is the title, a brief description, publication date, and a link to the product.

TB Reference Card

This reference card includes information on the risk factors for TB infection and developing TB disease, primary evaluation of patients, determining the medical history of a TB suspect, essential anti-TB drugs (prescribed by TB services), an overview of adverse drug effects and their management, an algorithm for detecting and diagnosing pulmonary TB, and patient education and adherence.

Tuberculosis: The Facts

This fact sheet identifies those individuals who are at high risk for TB, explains the difference between TB infection and active TB disease, and discusses TB's effect on the body. It also discusses the tuberculin skin test and medical treatment of TB.

This short booklet is full of practical advice, suggestions, guidance, and information in an easy to read format for TB patients.

Accompagnateurs Training Curriculum

This pilot curriculum for accompagnateurs comprises 15 units, with a focus on treatment and support for patients with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Accompagnateurs are community health workers trained and employed to provide medical and psychosocial support for their neighbors. This curriculum contains a training guide, handbook, flipchart, and slides. Available only in electronic format, which can be downloaded for free at the URL listed below.
