This book presents five papers that were used as background to a workshop on "Improving TB Drug Management: Accelerating DOTS Expansion" on June 2002, in Washington, DC. The papers address the weaknesses in drug management programs of certain countries and provide a framework for strengthening these programs through country-specific action plans.

Social Support Services for Tuberculosis Clients

This guide is to help providers establish and enhance social support services in a TB clinic. The purpose of this guide is to help the worker to (1) establish social services, (2) develop a therapeutic alliance with clients, (3) create an Intake Form to identify barriers to TB treatment and formulate goals to reduce those barriers and increase client functioning, (4) counsel and help clients achieve their goals, (5) form support groups, and (6) lead or participate in case management.

National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis Training and Education 2004-2008

The Strategic Plan is the result of an independent and collaborative effort by institutions, agencies, and individuals representing the full spectrum of TB care, control, and prevention efforts. The Strategic Plan is intended to encourage a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustained TB training and education effort that is targeted to the specific needs of various providers and communities. It establishes priorities and directions for TB training and education efforts for the five-year period from 2004 to 2008.

A Guide to Monitoring and Evaluation for Collaborative TB/HIV Activities

This book was developed to assist in the management of TB and HIV/AIDS programs that are implementing or planning to implement collaborative TB/HIV activities. It is intended to facilitate the collection of standardized data and help in the interpretation and dissemination of these data for program improvement. It aims to ensure consistency across all agencies and stakeholders involved in HIV/AIDS, TB, and collaborative TB/HIV activities.
