This STD communications toolkit was developed by NPHIC and staff from CDC's Division of STD Prevention. Its purpose is to provide materials and resources that will help communications staff and STD program managers in state and local health departments communicate effectively about STDs. The materials are divided into two broad categories: information for the general public and information for providers. The toolkit was created following key informant interviews with public information officers and STD program staff in seven state and two city health departments.

State Medicaid Coverage of Routine HIV Screening

NPIN admin's picture
This information sheet assessed coverage of routine HIV screening by state Medicaid programs in response to CDC's recommendation that HIV screening be a part of routine medical care for all patients between ages 13 and 64 years. Of all 50 states and the District of Columbia, states that responded to the question on routine HIV screening, 35 reported coverage of routine HIV screening and 16 reported coverage of medically necessary testing only. There was variation in coverage by region as well as of those living with HIV/AIDS and of Medicaid beneficiaries with HIV/AIDS.
