Preventing Infections From Pets: A Guide for People With HIV Infection

This brochure provides information on the prevention of infections from pets for persons with HIV. Most persons with HIV can keep their pets but they should know the health risks associated with owning a pet or caring for animals. Animals may carry diseases that if passed to a person with HIV can result in diarrhea, brain infections, and skin lesions.

World TB Day 2007: TB Anywhere is TB Everywhere

TB ANYWHERE IS TB EVERYWHERE is the theme for 2007 World TB Day, March 24th, offering a message of urgency and shared responsibility. The theme emphasizes that although TB is a preventable and curable disease, it remains a global emergency. It reflects the chronically inadequate investment in TB control, surveillance, research and development as well as TB's deadly synergy with HIV.
The website includes planning guidance as well as advocacy materials and resources.

[Important News for New Mothers About Your Baby's HIV Test]

This pamphlet discusses HIV testing for newborn infants. It explains that the state of New York requires all babies to be tested. The pamphlet also explains when the mother will receive the results of the test, how a baby can get HIV, the meaning of a positive test for a baby, what happens for a mother who has HIV, and for a baby who has HIV. The pamphlet emphasizes that the results of the baby’s HIV test are confidential and that doctors can only share that information with others who are providing health care.

The Difference Between Latent TB Infection and Active TB Disease

This information sheet discusses tuberculosis (TB) and the difference between the two TB-related conditions: latent TB infection (LTBI) and TB disease. It explains what is meant by LTBI, and, that although persons with LTBI cannot spread the disease, if left untreated, they can develop active TB in the future. The information sheet also describes active TB disease, its symptoms, and the need for treatment.
