I served in the U.S Army as a Combat Medic for 10 years. During my time in the Army I also worked as a Disease Intervention Specialist and a I spent some time in a Public Health Clinic. While working with in the Army Department of Preventative Medicine I became very interested in Public Health. After I left the Military I completed my BA in Health Communications with a minor in Public Health at the University of North Carolina . I worked for about a year and then I was accepted into the Centers for Disease Control Public Health Associate Program (PHAP).
During my first year , I worked directly with the Arizona state Viral Hepatitis Prevention Coordinator on a daily basis to promote the National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan objective to increase the proportion of persons living with HCV infection who are made aware of their HCV infection status by testing high-risk populations. I have provided education to over 300 current and past injection drug users and have redesigned the state hepatitis website (www.hepatitisaz.org) to provide better education to the public. I coordinated several HCV testing and educational events throughout the state of Arizona during Hepatitis Awareness Month 2015. I am currently serving as a member of the Arizona HIV Statewide Advisory Group ( SWAG). I am very passionate about HIV and HCV education and awareness.
