Bio:
Emerald has worked in public health and education for over a decade. After receiving her bachelor's degree in anthropology and language studies in 2011, Emerald worked with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles providing education and reproductive health counseling. Emerald began a dual master’s program at UCLA in 2013. While completing her graduate studies, she conducted independent research projects focused on reproductive health; served multiple leadership roles including Co-President of the UCLA Reproductive Health Interest Group, collaborated with the Center for the Study of Health and Latino Culture at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine on studies regarding the use of racial/ethnic categories in biomedical research; and worked as a research consultant for la Fundación Oriéntame, an NGO based in in Bogotá, Colombia that provides reproductive healthcare to women in two cities.
Emerald has expertise in demographic methods, advanced applied statistics, and reproductive health both in the US and in Latin America. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. After graduating with an MS in community health sciences and an MA in Latin American studies in 2016, she began working with Sentient Research as a program planner and research coordinator. In this role, Emerald works on multiple projects including building an e-learning program to prevent teenage pregnancy, evaluating a hepatitis C testing program for baby boomers, and studying ways to improve HIV/AIDS services for women, among others. Emerald is always excited when she gets a chance to bring together her programming skills, research skills, and clinical sexual health background to create innovative new programs.
Outside of work, Emerald loves listening to and learning about hip-hop and many different genres of Latin American music; cooking; dancing; and learning new languages.
