HIV/AIDS Among Hispanics/Latinos

This information sheet discusses the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS among Hispanic/Latino communities in the United States. It provides statistics showing the percentage of new HIV/AIDS diagnoses among Hispanics/Latinos in 2007 in the 34 states with long-term confidential name-based HIV reporting; the percentage of Hispanics/Latinos living with HIV/AIDS in these 34 states in 2007; rates of AIDS diagnoses among Hispanics/Latinos in the 50 states and the District of Columbia; the rates/ethnicities of persons with HIV/AIDS diagnosed in 2007; the rate of new AIDS diagnoses among Hispanic/Latino men and woman; and the estimated numbers of Hispanics/Latinos who died from AIDS in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The information sheet discusses the most common methods of transmission among females and males living with HIV/AIDS, prevention challenges such as behavioral risk factors including cultural, socioeconomic, and health-related factors. It discusses CDC's expansion of its partnerships to develop a national plan of action to reduce new HIV infections among Hispanics/Latinos.
