HIV-Associated Behaviors Among Injecting-Drug Users --- 23 Cities, United States, May 2005--February 2006

This report presents data from the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System (NHBS) collected during May 2005-February 2006 and analyzed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The report is based on interviews conducted with injecting drug users (IDUs) in 23 metropolitan statistical areas. Data on eight selected HIV-associated behaviors were analyzed. Findings indicated that during the period, 31.8 percent of IDUs interviewed reported participating in HIV-associated behaviors such as sharing syringes and other injecting equipment, and 62.6 percent had unprotected vaginal sex.
