Guidelines for the Use of Antiretroviral Agents in Pediatric HIV Infection

This monograph presents guidelines and issues concerning the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV-infected infants, children, and prepubertal adolescents. It includes the identification of perinatal HIV exposure, diagnosis of HIV infection in infants, laboratory monitoring of pediatric HIV infection before initiation of therapy, treatment recommendations, when to initiate therapy in antiretroviral-naïve children and what drugs to use, monitoring of children on ART, specific issues in ART for HIV-infected adolescents, adherence, management of medication toxicity or intolerances, ART failure, and antiretroviral drug-resistance testing. The monograph highlights key changes made to update the guidelines on February 12, 2014, and references have been updated to include new publications where relevant.
