Early Syphilis Surveillance Summary: Cases Reported as of May 31, 2010

This report summarizes data on early syphilis cases reported as of May 31, 2010, in Los Angeles County, California. The report provides information on all cases of early syphilis, primary and secondary syphilis, and early latent syphilis by men who have sex with men, women, heterosexual men, sexual orientation, age group and sexual orientation, race/ethnicity and sexual orientation, HIV status and sexual orientation by sexual orientation and month of diagnosis, by SPA, by race ethnicity of early syphilis cases who frequented bathhouses or sex clubs, and who met partners through the Internet, and, HIV and early syphilis coinfection. The appendices include surveillance notes, early syphilis case definition for infectious conditions under public health surveillance, where to report communicable disease in Los Angeles County, Los Angeles County STD screening guidelines for sexually active HIV positive persons, and recommendations to enhance STD detection and improve STD surveillance.
