Hepatitis C: Coping with Your Diagnosis of Hepatitis C

This pamphlet provides information on how veterans can cope when they have been diagnosed with hepatitis C. Some of the most common feelings associated with a diagnosis of hepatitis C are the following: sadness or depression, anger, fear, and anxiety. The pamphlet gives information on how to take care of your emotional needs, including talking about your feelings with your doctor, friends, family members, or other supportive people.

Update on the Management and Treatment of Hepatitis C Virus Infection: Recommendations from the Department of Veterans Affairs Hepatitis C Resource Center Program and the National Hepatitis C Program Office

This journal article is a practice guideline that provides recommendations summarizing the growing literature and current best practices of chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) treatment, including treatment in difficult-to-treat populations. These recommendations are based on an extensive review of published data, national consensus recommendations, and input from thought leaders involved in HCV care and treatment.

It explains what the treatments are, what the treatments try to do, how the medicines are given, side effects of treatments and ways to lessen the side effects, how the doctor knows if the treatments are working, risks to the partner of a person being treated for hepatitis C, and where to get more information.

Provider Feedback Forum on HCV Diagnosis, Treatment, and Care

On February 28, 2008, the Public Health Strategic Health Care Group (PHSHG) convened the Provider Feedback Forum on HCV Diagnosis, Treatment, and Care. The primary purpose of the forum was to obtain feedback from frontline providers about their experiences in diagnosing and treating hepatitis C virus (HCV) in patients receiving care from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). PHSHG sought this input in order to help determine priority areas for ongoing and future program and policy efforts.

Vaccination Against Hepatitis A & B: A Summary of Current Recommendations

State of Care for Veterans with Chronic Hepatitis C

This report characterizes the state of care of the population of veterans with chronic hepatitis C (HCV) within the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA). It describes the distribution of veterans with chronic HCV within VHA and provides basic demographic data on this population. Additionally, the report describes pharmacologic treatment; other conditions commonly seen in veterans with chronic HCV; and indicators of healthcare quality including screening, monitoring, and outcomes assessment.
