Strengthen Capacity of South African Government's Department of Health and Implementing Partners to Deliver Quality Differentiated, Advanced Clinical Care for Unstable HIV and TB/HIV Patients in the Republic of South Africa under PEPFAR

In South Africa, it is estimated that 20% of patients newly initiating anti-retroviral therapy (ART) present late and 10-15% of patients on first line ART are failing treatment, leading to poor retention, especially in the first 12 months of treatment. This NOFO seeks to improve treatment retention and viral load suppression of HIV and TB/HIV co-infected patients through the use of innovative capacity building approaches for health service providers to better manage complicated and unstable HIV and TB/HIV co-infected patients.

Strengthening Vietnam's Indigenous Technical Assistance Capacity and Systems through Support for HIV/AIDS Clinical Mentorship and Health System Strengthening under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

PEPFAR's focus of prioritizing two regions in Vietnam to achieve 90:90:95 goals in 2020 and simultaneously gradual shift away from direct service delivery (DSD) support for Vietnam poses significant challenges and opportunities for the country in sustaining the national response to the HIV epidemic.

Combination Prevention Solutions to Reach Epidemic Control among High Risk, Priority Populations in High Burden Areas in the Republic of South Africa under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

HIV/AIDS remains the most pressing health problem and leading cause of death in South Africa. Despite high coverage levels for HIV/AIDS services, South Africa has not achieved epidemic control. Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) aged 15-19 have an HIV prevalence rate eight times higher than boys of the same age. Prevalence rises dramatically as young women get older, from 5.6% among 15 to 19 year olds to 17.4% among 20-24 year olds.

HIV-Focused Population Surveys in Countries Supported Under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

The primary purpose of this NOFO is to provide funding and technical assistance for HIV-focused, household-based surveys in national and subnational general populations of all ages in PEPFAR countries. The secondary purpose is for HIV-focused surveys and size estimation of key and priority populations in PEPFAR-supported countries. These activities serve to assess program impact to inform national and local responses to HIV, mostly located in sub-Saharan Africa.

Public Health Surveillance of Recent HIV Infection and Response under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)

The purpose of this NOFO is to provide funding and technical assistance for PEPFAR countries to establish HIV recent infection surveillance to detect recent infections, monitor trends in the HIV epidemic, identify hot spots associated with recent HIV transmission, and inform programmatic interventions to reach epidemic control. Point-of-care tests for recent infection distinguish between recent (HIV seroconversion in the last 6 months, on average) and non-recent HIV infection and provide results within minutes.
