i know: Raising the Volume of Young African-American Voices in the Fight Against HIV

This information sheet discusses “i know,” the new CDC-sponsored social media effort to encourage young African-Americans, aged 18 to 24, to talk openly about HIV. The program features a video, radio public service announcements with actor Jamie Foxx, and video messages from supporting celebrities and advocates. It uses Facebook, Twitter, a new Web site, and text messages to provide information about HIV and promote conversations about HIV among African-Americans. It is hoped that the social media will create opportunities for young people to talk with each other about HIV prevention and transmission, and provide tools to stay safe and informed, so that young African-Americans can become part of the solution.
