This information sheet provides a list of risk factors for getting hepatitis C virus (HCV). It states that if someone has any risk factors, he/she should get tested for hepatitis C. The risk factors listed include: direct blood-to-blood contact, sharing drug using equipment, blood transfusions and medical procedures before 1992, medical and dental procedures performed in some foreign countries, blood clotting factors before 1987, hemodialysis, children born to hepatitis C positive women, occupational exposure, getting tattoos or piercings, and having sex or sharing personal items with someone with hepatitis C.
