Genital HPV Infection - Fact Sheet VL 2

This information sheet discusses, genital human papillomavirus (HPV), an STD. It explains that there are more than 40 types of HPV and that nearly all sexually-active men and women will get at least one type in their lives. The sheet notes that it is very often asymptomatic and that many people pass it to others without knowing they have it. There is no cure for HPV, but there are treatments for health problems associated with it. The fact sheet discusses HPV prevention, transmission, how it is manifested in women and men, and the link between HPV and cervical cancer in women and cancer of the anus and penis in men particularly men with low immunity. There is an HPV test for women aged 30 years or older. Women are also advised to get pap tests to screen for cervical cancer. Girls/women and boys/men are advised to get vaccinated.
