Clinical and Behavioral Characteristics of Adults Receiving Medical Care for HIV Infection: Medical Monitoring Project 2005 Pilot Data Collection Cycle

This surveillance report presents results based on interview data from the pilot cycle of the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP), during which information was collected on patients in care during 2005. Data were collected during January 2006 - August 2007. Interviews were conducted in 10 project areas, and 899 persons participated; 72 percent were male, 26 percent female, and 2 percent transgender. Medical record abstractions were conducted in 6 project areas. Behavioral information was collected using a standardized questionnaire administered during face-to-face interviews conducted by a trained interviewer. Questions included demographic characteristics, access to health care, usual source of care, adherence to ARV medications, preventive therapy, reproductive or gynecologic history, vaccinations, unmet needs, sexual behavior, and drug and alcohol use.
