Cases of HIV Infection and AIDS in tihe United States and Dependent Areas, by Race/Ethnicity, 2003-2007

This report summarizes the diagnoses and prevalence of HIV/AIDS by race/ethnicity using data for cases of HIV infection and AIDS reported to CDC through June 2008. Estimated numbers of cases of HIV infection are presented, including cases of HIV infection that progressed to AIDS. Data are stratified by the following races and ethnic groups: American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and white. For many trends, the report shows that from 2004-2008, HIV diagnoses declined or remained relatively stable, but increased in 2007 in the 34 states that have long-term, name-based HIV reporting. The report complements the information in the 2007 HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report and updates the information in the supplementary report on race/ethnicity data from 2002-2006.
