HIV/AIDS Surveillance and Statistics

HIV/AIDS surveillance enhances efforts to prevent HIV transmission, improve allocation of resources for treatment services, and assist in evaluating the impact of public health interventions in the United States.

CDC'S HIV/AIDS surveillance system is the nation's source for timely information used to track the epidemic. CDC supports state and local health departments to collect HIV and AIDS data. Health departments report their data on AIDS cases, new HIV infections, and behaviors and characteristics of people at high risk to CDC from around the country. CDC then can track the epidemic and direct HIV prevention funding to where it is needed the most.
