This funding opportunity announcement invites research grant applications focused on: identifying HIV-1-infected cells in the central nervous system (CNS) compartment that are latently infected; developing strategies for targeting these latently infected cells; and aiming to achieve viral silencing leading to inhibition of viral production, without the need for pro-viral reactivation.

NIMH intends to commit an estimate of $2,000,000 in FY 2017 to fund 3-5 awards in response to this FOA and the companion R01 FOA. Future year amounts will depend on annual appropriations. NINDS intends to commit approximately $1,500,000 in FY 2017 to fund 2-4 awards in response to this FOA and the companion R01 FOA. NIDA will commit approximately $1,500,000 in FY 2017 to fund 2-4 awards in response to this FOA and the companion R01 FOA.
