Mortality Among Patients with Tuberculosis and Associations With HIV Status – United States, 1993-2008

This report provides data on the mortality among patients with TB and associations with HIV infection. To investigate the impact of HIV on risk for death during TB treatment in the United States, data were analyzed for all culture-positive patients with TB from 1993 to 2008. The proportion that died was determined and stratified by HIV test result. Mortality data were restricted to patients reported before 2007.

This report discusses a study on HIV testing and diagnosis among adults in the United States, 2001-2009. CDC used 2001-2009 data from the National Health Interview Survey to calculate the percentage of persons aged 18-64 years who reported ever being tested for HIV in the United States. Also, data from the National HIV surveillance system were used to estimate numbers, percentages, and rates of HIV diagnoses; AIDS diagnoses; and late diagnoses of HIV infection for persons diagnosed with HIV infection during 2001-2008 and reported to CDC through June 2009.

Syphilis Profiles, 2009

This report presents all 2009 profiles that provide an overview of syphilis morbidity in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The profiles consist of figures and tables of data on syphilis from the U.S. states and territories through 2009. These data are based on case reports from the 65 sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention project areas. Case report data are the foundation of STD surveillance systems, and are collected by state and local health departments.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Among Arizona Youth: The Impact of Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Genital Herpes on Arizona Adolescents, 2009

This report presents data on the impact of chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and genital herpes on 10-19 year olds in Arizona for 2009. The data were derived from the Arizona Department of Health Services STD Surveillance Database. The data are presented by race/ethnicity, county, and gender for each disease. It includes certain populations such as young adults in juvenile detention facilities. It is noted that chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes are more frequently diagnosed in young females than in young males.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Arizona: 2009 Annual Report

This report presents data provided by laboratories and medical providers to the Arizona Department of Health Services STD Control Program. It presents reported chlamydia and gonorrhea cases and case rates per 100,000 population for the years 2004 to 2009, and reported rates by age group, gender, and race/ethnicity.

It provides statistics showing the percentage of new HIV infections by race/ethnicity and gender, 2006; HIV/AIDS diagnoses among Hispanics/Latinos in 2008 in the 37 states with confidential name-based HIV reporting; the number of Hispanics/Latinos living with AIDS in the U.S. and dependent areas, 2008; and the estimated numbers of Hispanics/Latinos with an AIDS diagnoses who had died in the U.S. and dependent areas in 2007.
