This report reviews guidelines and strategies for preventing environment-associated infections in health-care facilities. It presents recommendations, including evidence-based recommendation supported by studies; requirements of federal agencies; guidelines and standards from building and equipment professional organizations; recommendations from scientific theory or rationale; and experienced opinions based upon infection-control and engineering practices. The report also suggests a series of performance measurements as a way of evaluating infection-control efforts.

This information sheet provides evidence concerning the use of the male latex condom to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomoniasis, genital ulcer diseases, and HPV infections. The evidence is based on information about how different STDs are transmitted, the physical properties of condoms, the anatomic coverage or protection that condoms provide, and epidemiologic studies assessing condom use and STD risk.

This report summarizes an enhanced outbreak response, which identified 106 cases of syphilis with onset from January 2007 to June 2009, including six congenital cases in a Southwest Indian Nation. The enhanced, coordinated multiagency response involved tribal and Pima County Health Departments, the Indian Health Service (IHS), the Arizona Department of Health Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
