Edith Jickling's picture
This information sheet discusses two successful prevention campaigns in Oregon and Alaska. Oregon’s syphilis prevention campaign SyphAware provided ads that were placed on buses, trains and light rail cars around Portland. The objective of this presentation is to list and describe the mechanisms of AIDS-associated malignancies, identify and describe oncoviruses seen in the setting of HIV infection, describe the 3 AIDS-defining malignancies, and to develop a basic cancer therapy plan for patients with AIDS-defining malignancies.

HIV and Youth

In 2016, youth aged 13 to 24 accounted for 2% of all new HIV diagnoses in the United States. Most of those new diagnoses among youth (81%) occurred among gay and bisexual males. Young black/African American and Hispanic/Latino gay and bisexual males are especially affected; however, we are seeing progress. Estimated annual HIV infections fell 24% among youth from 2010 to 2015.

The Case For New Multipurpose Prevention Technologies

Edith Jickling's picture
Lauren Hunter, a doctoral student at UC Berkeley, presented the "Contraceptive method use and chlamydia positivity among California family planning clients: the case for new Multipurpose Prevention Technologies," an analysis comparing chlamydia positivity by type of contraceptive method used among women tested through California's Family PACT program in 2012-2013. In the presentation, she discusses the implications of the findings and how the development and provision of additional Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (MPTs) may help to address an unmet need for STI prevention.
